Comme nous prenons la profession du génie civil de l'avant par nos actions multiples, je voudrais rappeler à mes collègues de l'importance de l'éthique professionnelle. L'éthique est une science de la morale, ou un ensemble de principes, avec un sens du but. Distinction entre le bien et le mal, les pensées et les actions vertueuses et d'être bon et de maximiser la bonté pour les plus grands nombres de définir morale et des valeurs.
Dans ce contexte, un ingénieur civil professionnell

  • devrait garder son client pleinement informés sur toutes les questions à l'égard de sa mission, qui sont susceptibles de conduire à un conflit d'intérêts ou lorsque, dans son jugement, un projet ne sera pas viable sur la base des risques commerciaux, techniques, environnementales ou de tout autres ;
  • doit maintenir la confidentialité de toute information avec la plus grande sincérité, sauf autorisation expresse de divulguer de telles informations ou si une telle permission, si retenu, peut nuire au bien-être, la santé et la sécurité de la collectivité;
  • ne doivent ni payer, ni offrir des incitations directes ou indirectes à obtenir un travail;
  • devrait concurrencer sur la seule base du mérite;
  • devrait abstenir d'inciter un client à la violation d'un contrat conclu avec un autre ingénieur civil dûment désigné;
  • devrait, si demandé par un client pour examiner la révision du travail d'une autre personne ou organisation, discuter de l'examen avec l'autre personne ou organisation pour arriver à une opinion équilibrée;
  • devraient faire des déclarations ou de témoigner devant un tribunal ou une cour de justice d'une manière objective et exacte, et exprimer une opinion sur la base de connaissances et de compétences adéquates;
  • devrait révéler l'existence de tout intérêt - pécuniaire ou autre - qui peut affecter le jugement tout en donnant une preuve ou de faire une déclaration.

As we take the Civil Engineering profession forward through our manifold actions, I would like to remind my colleagues of the importance of professional ethics. Ethics are a science of morals, or a set of principles, with a sense of purpose. Distinction between right and wrong, virtuous thoughts and actions and being good and maximise goodness for the greatest numbers define morals and values.
In this context, a professional Civil Engineer

  • should keep his client fully informed on all matters in respect of his assignment which are likely to lead to a conflict of interest or when, in his judgement, a project will not be viable on the basis of commercial, technical, environmental or any other risks;
  • should maintain confidentiality of any information with utmost sincerity unless expressly permitted to disclose such information or unless such permission, if withheld, may adversely affect the welfare, health and safety of the community;
  • should neither pay nor offer direct or indirect inducements to secure work;
  • should compete on the basis of merit alone;
  • should refrain from inducing a client to breach a contract entered into with another duly appointed Civil Engineer;
  • should, if asked by a client to review the review the work of another person or organisation, discuss the review with the other person or organisation to arrive at a balanced opinion;
  • should make statements or give evidence before a tribunal or a court of law in an objective and accurate manner and express any opinion on the basis of adequate knowledge and competence;
  • should reveal the existence of any interest – pecuniary or otherwise – which may affect the judgement while giving an evidence or making a statement.
